    About Lima

Founded in 1535 by the Spanish 'Conquistador' Pizarro, Lima is the capital of Peru. The city replaced Cuzco as capital and soon became the richest settlement of Spain in the New World. Today Lima is a metropolis of over eight and a half million inhabitants. In the center you can find various interesting sights, like the museum of Anthropology, the Gold museum, the catacombs of the San Francisco Church and the Plaza de Armas.

    Main Attractions

Gold museum: This museum has a private collection of pre-Inca and Inca gold, jewelry and ceremonial objects.

Historic Center: The historic centre has many beautifully designed gates, altars and colonial balconies as well as a bustling pedestrian walkway linking the two plazas.

Pachacámac: Pachacamac is located at 31 km. south Lima, in the valley of Lurín. It is a Pre-Inca and Inca archaeological construction. The investigations presume that this place was inhabited since the year 200 up to 1533. There is an on-site Museum, open daily from 09:00 to 17:00, there is an exhibition of archaeological remains found in this complex, ceramic, textile, idols, etc

     Lima, Peru Travel Information

    When to go

Lima can be visited all year. Summer is from December to May.

    How long

We recommend spending at just 1 day in Lima.

    Tips

Instead of visiting the Gold museum, we recommend to visit the Museum of Archaeology and Architecture. The collection in the Gold museum is not real and the Museum of Archaeology is a nice museum to visit and a good impression of Peruvian history and culture.
